Prof. J-F. K. Akinbami;

John-Felix K. Akinbami, PhD – is a Research Professor at the Centre for Energy Research and Development (CERD), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He has over 25 years involvement in policy and development research focusing on Energy and Environmental Management; Energy Systems Modeling, Energy Policy and Analysis, Energy Efficiency, Energy and Building, Electricity Sector Reform, Restructuring and Regulation, Alternative Energy Resources, Sustainable Development and Climate Change Study. 

The experiences had seen him being engaged actively in the development and preparation of both Renewable Energy Master Plan and the National Energy Master Plan for Nigeria; and the periodical revision of the Nigeria National Energy Policy. He has also consulted for the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) on the Rural Access and Renewable Energy component of the World Bank funded project – National Energy Development Project (NEDP). 

He mentors younger academics through teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and graduate levels on various aspects of Energy and Climate Change Issues, particularly in Department of Physics and Engineering Physics; and the African Institute for Science Policy and Innovation (AISPI) respectively.

His publications span are covered in reputable local and international journals including amongst others International Journal of Global Energy Issues, Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies for Global Change, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Applied Energy, Natural Resources Forum, Renewable Energy, Transport Policy, Environmental Management. He has reviewed scientific papers for conferences and journals including:

He has participated as a resource person/consultant on the execution of various studies/projects for both national and international organizations including European Commission, African Development Bank, World Bank, Nigeria National Planning Commission, Energy Commission of Nigeria, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), United States Country Studies Program, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

John-Felix was a Senior Associate of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, and a member of various professional bodies including Quality Control Society of Nigeria (QCSON), Solar Energy Society of Nigeria (SESN), African Wind Energy Association (AfriWEA). He is also a member of Nigerian Association of Energy Economics and the International Association of Energy Economics. He was a Royal Society awardee as an Established Scientist for the 2017 Commonwealth Science Conference.

He was the Head of, Division of Energy Management and Technology for several years before his appointment as the Director, CERD.
