COVID-19 Research and Response
The Centre for Energy Research & Development (CERD), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife started as the Nuclear (Energy) Technology Development programme in 1976 under the Department of Physics in the University. This was sequel to the declaration of the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) as a Centre of Excellence in Nuclear, Energy Research and Development by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Centre for Energy Research and Development is a world class Centre of Excellence in the provision of requisite manpower for the development of nuclear technology with coordinated, cutting edge researches with the aim of putting Nigeria in the League of Nations with safety applications of nuclear science and technology in materials science, energy, minerals and environmental studies

- Integrating and delivering multidisciplinary research and development solutions in applied nuclear sciences, energy, environment and materials science.
- Harnessing knowledge in nuclear science and technology for peaceful applications in meeting national sustainable development targets
- Providing expert advisory role in nation’s nuclear energy development programmes, specifically, and the energy sector, generally.
